How does the relationship system work?
Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look, released on 27 August 2026, showed that Jason and Lucia’s bond changes with how you play. As GTA BOOM’s breakdown of the video describes it, neglect counts against the relationship, for example working too hard and staying away from home too long, and the state of the relationship feeds into their dialogue, their animations and how their story unfolds. Is there romance in GTA 6?
Jason and Lucia are presented as a couple from the first trailer, but how romantic their story becomes is partly in your hands. In his interview with Famitsu, translated into English by GTAVice on 9 September 2026, Rob Nelson said: “Whether they go through situations together as a couple or simply as accomplices is up to the player.” That is the clearest official statement so far. Rockstar has not described a dating system with other characters, and nothing suggests one.
Does the relationship change the ending?
Unknown. Rockstar has said the relationship affects “how their story unfolds”, but has not said whether it leads to different endings. Earlier Rockstar games did use player choices for endings, such as GTA IV and Red Dead Redemption 2, so the question is fair, but any answer before 19 November is a guess.

Can you play as only one character?
Rockstar has not said you can ignore one of them. What is known is that you switch between Jason and Lucia, as in GTA V with its three protagonists, and that they play both apart and together. How much freedom you have to favour one will only be clear at launch.
