Official Trailer
Grand Theft Auto IV follows Niko Bellic, an Eastern European war veteran who arrives in Liberty City, Rockstar's dark, hyper-realistic recreation of New York City, chasing the American Dream.
GTA 4 marked a dramatic shift in tone for the franchise: grittier, more cinematic, and powered by the Euphoria physics engine that gave every interaction a weighty, realistic feel. It remains one of the highest-rated games of all time on Metacritic.
GTA IV DLC: The Lost and Damned & The Ballad of Gay Tony
GTA IV features two major expansion packs that tell parallel stories in Liberty City. The Lost and Damned follows Johnny Klebitz, vice president of the Lost MC biker gang, in a darker, grungier narrative. The Ballad of Gay Tony follows Luis Lopez, a nightclub bouncer, through Liberty City's high-end party scene with explosive set pieces and new weapons. Both DLCs are included in the GTA IV: Complete Edition available on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. For today’s key prices, see where to buy GTA 4.
Can You Play GTA 4 in 2026?
GTA IV is available on PS3, Xbox 360, and PC. The PC version (via Steam or Rockstar Launcher) is the best way to play today. It supports higher resolutions and can be modded extensively. Unfortunately, GTA IV has not received a PS4/PS5 remaster. Xbox players can play GTA IV on Xbox Series X|S via backward compatibility with improved frame rates and resolution.
GTA 4 Phone Number Cheats
GTA IV uses a unique cheat code system: instead of button combinations, you dial phone numbers on Niko's in-game cell phone. Open the phone, go to the dial pad, and enter the number, the effect activates immediately. Key cheats include health, armour and ammo (482-555-0100), and health, armour with a vehicle repair (362-555-0100). Our complete GTA 4 cheat codes guide lists every phone number cheat in the game. GTA 5 went back to button combinations and console commands: see the GTA 5 Cheat Codes: Complete List 2026.
Frequently Asked Questions about GTA IV
When did GTA 4 come out?
On 29 April 2008 on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and on 2 December 2008 on PC.
How do you enter cheat codes in GTA 4?
Open Niko's cell phone (Up on D-pad), go to the dial pad (select the phone icon), type the cheat number (482-555-0100 restores health, armour and ammo), and press Call. The cheat activates instantly. Cheats disable achievements for that session.
Is GTA 4 on PS5 or PS4?
No. GTA IV has not been remastered for PS4 or PS5. It's available on PS3, Xbox 360 (backward compatible on Xbox Series X|S), and PC. The PC version offers the best modern experience with mod support and higher resolutions.
What is the GTA 4 health cheat?
Dial 482-555-0100, spelled GTA-555-0100, for health, armour, ammo and the full arsenal in one call. 362-555-0100 is the narrower one: health and armour, plus a repair of the vehicle you are in, without ammo or weapons. You can save either in the phone's contacts.
