Take-Two has not published a GTA 6 sales target, but it expects 8.0 to 8.2 billion dollars in net bookings for its fiscal year 2027, the year GTA 6 launches, and its CEO describes pre-orders as unprecedented. Outside the company, Piper Sandler’s analyst estimates around 48.3 million units at launch, and the 99.99 dollar Ultimate Edition has topped the PlayStation Store pre-order charts in several countries. Here is what each figure means.
What has Take-Two said about GTA 6 sales?
In its first-quarter results for fiscal 2027, published on 6 August 2026, Take-Two reported 1.39 billion dollars of net bookings and reiterated its outlook of 8.0 to 8.2 billion dollars for the full fiscal year, which runs to 31 March 2027 and includes the release on 19 November. VGC and the results release on Nasdaq both carry the figures. On the earnings call the next day, CEO Strauss Zelnick called pre-orders “unprecedented” and said they had vastly exceeded internal expectations, as Shacknews reported. He gave no unit number.
How many copies will GTA 6 sell at launch?
| Estimate | Source | Method |
| About 48.3 million units at launch | James Callahan, Piper Sandler, reported by Wccftech on 11 September 2026 | Weekly visitors to the r/GTA6 community (2.7 million) multiplied by 16 |
It is one analyst’s model, built on Reddit traffic, not a sales figure. Other ranges circulate online without a source we could read, so we leave them out. For scale, Take-Two says GTA V has sold over 230 million units since 2013 and Red Dead Redemption 2 over 87 million.
Is GTA 6 the best-selling pre-order?
No official ranking exists, but the public store charts point that way. Kotaku reported on 21 July 2026 that the 99.99 dollar Ultimate Edition was the top pre-ordered game on the PlayStation Store in nine territories, based on the public charts. PlayStation’s own monthly download charts do not include pre-orders, which is why GTA 6 is absent from August’s list. Claims about Amazon rankings come from weaker sources and are best ignored.
What else moves the numbers?
- Netflix: Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look premiered on Netflix on 27 August. Ampere Analysis, cited by Wccftech, estimates it brought over 100,000 new Netflix sign-ups.
- Price: 79.99 dollars for the Standard Edition and 99.99 dollars for the Ultimate Edition, detailed on our GTA 6 editions page.
- Platforms: PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only at launch, with no PC version announced, as tracked on our GTA 6 PC page.
When will we get real sales figures?
Take-Two publishes results every quarter. The next report covers the quarter ending 30 September, before launch; the first figures including GTA 6’s release will come with the results for the quarter ending 31 December 2026. Until then, treat every “GTA 6 sold X million” headline as an estimate. The days left until launch are on our GTA 6 countdown, and pre-order offers on our GTA 6 pre-order page.
