The GTA 6 Extended Look, 26 minutes of gameplay shown on Netflix and Rockstar’s YouTube channel on 27 August 2026, confirmed a six-star wanted system, police who track your description, outfit and vehicle separately, car theft with security tiers, and a story Rockstar’s Rob Nelson sizes at about 80 hours. Hands-off previews published on 2 September added the rest. This page keeps only what Rockstar showed or said, dated, and flags what is still a report.
How does the wanted system work in GTA 6?
The wanted level goes back to six stars, a cap GTA IV had and GTA V dropped. Police only react to what they witness or detect: a crime nobody saw does not raise a star. Once they are after you, they track three things separately, your physical description, your outfit and your vehicle, and the HUD shows which of the three they hold. Losing them means acting on each: dump or burn the car, change the whole outfit rather than a jacket, and visit a barber or salon to reset the physical description. Jason and Lucia can split up during a chase, so one can draw the pursuit while the other slips away.
Beside the wanted level, previews describe a persistent Criminal Profile that records how you behave over the whole game, including how often you use lethal force, in the way Red Dead Redemption 2’s honour did. Non-lethal takedowns exist. Rockstar has not detailed what the profile changes.
What changes when you steal a car?
Parked cars have security tiers. An older car opens with a slim jim; a modern luxury car needs a key-cloning tool, and some carry a GPS tracker that reports the theft. Smashing the window is always possible and always loud. The WAINK phone app scans a vehicle for its value and its security level before you commit. Rockstar showed the slim jim as an interaction with its own timing rather than an instant entry, which is the part that changes the rhythm of a getaway.
How long is the story, and how is it built?
Rob Nelson, co-studio head of Rockstar North, estimated about 80 hours for a story-focused playthrough in the previews. The campaign is organised in chapters, with decisions that branch and an ending shaped by the state of Jason and Lucia’s relationship. You switch between the two freely. Their romance is optional and carries no mechanical bonus: Rockstar built it as roleplay, not as a stat. Ignoring texts on the phone weakens the relationship with the sender, which applies to the two leads as well as to contacts.
What is confirmed about the map and the activities?
The game is set in Leonida, with Vice City as its main city. Previews put the map at roughly double GTA V’s and about three times Red Dead Redemption 2’s, and Vice City at around twice the size of Los Santos; those ratios come from the journalists’ sessions, not from a Rockstar figure. Activities shown or described: pool, mini golf, basketball, kayaking, scuba diving, parachuting, alligator hunting, a zoo, lounging on the beach and interacting with dogs. Rockstar quotes more than 600,000 animations for NPCs. Our GTA 6 map page keeps the regions and landmarks up to date.
What changes about your character?
Diet, exercise, sleep and stress show on the body and the face: fast food adds weight, training adds muscle. The phone is a physical object held in the hand, not an overlay. Snapmatic returns as an in-game social network you can browse but not post to, because two fugitives do not upload selfies. Character pages on Jason, Lucia and the cast are on the hub.
What is still a report, not a confirmation?
- 30 frames per second: Rob Nelson confirmed the 30 fps target on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S to Flow Games just before the Extended Look, and said the technical team had not decided on a 60 fps mode. That part is official; any 40 or 60 fps figure you read is speculation.
- No first-person view at launch: reported by several previews from the builds they saw, not stated by Rockstar.
- Map size ratios: journalists’ estimates, see above.
- Multiplayer: the Extended Look covered single-player only. Rockstar has announced nothing about an online mode for GTA 6, its date or what happens to GTA Online accounts.
Where does that leave a pre-order?
Pre-orders have been open since 25 June 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, at 79.99 EUR for the Standard Edition and 99.99 EUR for the Ultimate, which adds sixteen single-player extras. Key resellers go lower: 62.99 EUR at Instant Gaming on 4 September 2026. Our GTA 6 price comparison covers Instant Gaming, Eneba, Kinguin and the official stores, both editions, keys told apart from accounts. Instant Gaming links on GTAside are affiliate links, same price for you.
