The GTA 6 map is the state of Leonida, Rockstar's version of Florida. Six regions are known so far, spread over at least six counties: Vice City, the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga National Park. Rockstar has not published a size. The journalists who played the game in hands-off sessions at Rockstar North put Leonida at about twice GTA V's map and three times Red Dead Redemption 2's, with Vice City alone around twice the size of Los Santos. Here is every region with Rockstar's own words, the size estimates and where they come from, and what the Extended Look of 27 August 2026 showed.
Rockstar has released no map, so this one is ours: Leonida drawn on the real Florida it parodies, with the six regions Rockstar has named placed on their obvious real-world models. Every place, character and activity on it comes from Rockstar's own material; the positions are our estimates and will be corrected when the in-game map exists. Zoom into Vice City to see its districts, filter by type, or search a name.

Leonida is the fictional state that holds the whole game, the way San Andreas held GTA V. Rockstar describes it as spanning "from Vice City to surrounding coastal, industrial, wetland and rural areas": dense city streets, beach resorts, island communities, wetlands, industrial districts and mountain country. The name nods to Juan Ponce de León, the Spaniard who named Florida, and the state seal seen on documents in the trailers parodies Florida's. Six counties have appeared so far on signs, licence plates and Rockstar's texts: Vice-Dale, Mariana, Kelly, Ambrosia, Lummox and Leonard. Jason and Lucia's story crosses the state rather than staying in the city.
| Region | County | Rockstar's tagline | Real-world model |
|---|---|---|---|
| Vice City | Vice-Dale County | Everything in excess | Miami |
| Leonida Keys | Mariana County | Gateway to paradise | The Florida Keys |
| Grassrivers | Mariana County | Welcome to the wetlands | The Everglades |
| Port Gellhorn | Kelly County | Live hard | Florida's Gulf coast, the Panhandle resort towns |
| Ambrosia | Ambrosia County | Keeping Leonida sweet | The sugar country around Lake Okeechobee |
| Mount Kalaga National Park | Lummox County | Wild, wild country | North Florida's forests and springs |
Rockstar: "Everything in excess. We're a long way from the '80s, but Vice City is still the sun and fun capital of America." The city returns for the first time since 2002, rebuilt from modern Miami rather than from the 1986 game. Districts named so far: Ocean Beach, Washington Beach, South Beach and Vice Beach along the shore, Little Havana inland, the Venetian Islands, the Leaf Links golf course, the Stockyard industrial area and Vice City International Airport. The Extended Look showed the nightlife strip, the arena district by the port, high-rise condos with rooftop pools, and street-level Little Havana with its murals under the expressway.

Rockstar: "Gateway to paradise. The dress code is casual, the bars are loaded. Life in this tropical archipelago isn't flashy but it's easy." A chain of islands south of the city, linked by a long bridge, modelled on the Florida Keys. Key Lento is the first named key; trailer 2 places Jason and Lucia's home there at the start of the story. The trailers show boat parties, flats-fishing skiffs and seaplanes, and the Extended Look added kayaking through mangroves and scuba diving.

Rockstar: "Welcome to the wetlands. The untamable jewel of Leonida's crown. The gators may be the most famous attraction." The Everglades of Leonida: sawgrass, slow rivers, mangroves and airboats, west of the city and north of the Keys. The trailers show airboat runs and alligators on the banks; the Extended Look confirmed alligator hunting as an activity. Expect the region to serve as the state's back door for anything that needs to stay out of sight.

Rockstar: "Live hard. This is Leonida's forgotten coast, fuelled by malt liquor, painkillers and truck stop energy drinks." A faded resort town on the western Gulf coast: cheap motels, shuttered attractions, an empty mall, the Panhandle's beach towns thirty years after their peak. Trailer 2 shows its strip clubs and its racetrack crowd. It is the region furthest in spirit from Vice City's money.

Rockstar: "Keeping Leonida sweet. The battle for the health and wealth of Leonida begins here. In the heart of Leonida, American industry and old school values still reign supreme, whatever the cost. The Allied Crystal sugar refinery provides the jobs, while the local biker gang provides almost everything else." Inland sugar country around Lake Leonida, the game's version of the farmland south of Lake Okeechobee, with a refinery town and a biker presence that the trailers show on the highway.

Rockstar: "Wild, wild country. Room to breathe on the state's northern fringes. A national landmark up against the state's northern border, Mount Kalaga offers prime hunting, fishing and off-road trails." The forested north, with Yorktown as its named town: springs, pine woods and trails, the part of Leonida that looks least like Florida's postcards and most like its interior. Hunting and fishing are confirmed activities.

Other places named on signs and in Rockstar's texts: Hamlet, Waning Sands, Watson Bay and Leonard County. None has a description yet.
Rockstar has not published a figure, and it never has for GTA V or Red Dead Redemption 2 either, so every number you read is a measurement made by someone else. The most reliable comes from the journalists who saw the game at Rockstar North before the Extended Look, and even that is an estimate from a guided session.
| Source | Estimate | What it is |
|---|---|---|
| Hands-off previews at Rockstar North, published 2 September 2026 | About double GTA V, about three times Red Dead Redemption 2; Vice City around twice Los Santos | Journalists' estimates from the sessions, not a Rockstar figure |
| Fan reconstructions from the trailers, 2025 to 2026 | Roughly 2.5 times GTA V | Reconstruction from trailers and screenshots, revised at each new footage |
| Community measurement of leaked material, August 2026 | Roughly 1.7 times GTA V, about 83 km² of land | Unverified source, quoted by several sites |
| Rockstar Games | "The biggest and most immersive evolution of the Grand Theft Auto series yet" | No square-mile figure published, for GTA 6 or for any earlier GTA |
Read together, the estimates put Leonida between 1.7 and 2.7 times the size of GTA V's map, with the previews at the middle of that range. Two things are firm: Vice City is a bigger city than Los Santos, and the state around it adds regions GTA V never had, an archipelago and a wetland. The comparison that matters more than square miles is density: Rockstar quotes more than 600,000 animations for the population, and the previews describe more enterable buildings than any earlier GTA.
The 26 minutes of gameplay shown on 27 August 2026 moved through most of the state: Vice City's beach, its nightlife and its highways, the Keys by boat and by seaplane, the Grassrivers by airboat, and the open road between regions. Activities seen or named: pool, mini golf, basketball, kayaking, scuba diving, parachuting, a zoo, alligator hunting, beach lounging and dog interactions. The police system reads the region too: officers track your description, your outfit and your vehicle separately, and a chase started in the city can be lost in the wetlands. Our GTA 6 hub keeps the full list of confirmed gameplay details.

Fans reconstruct Leonida from every trailer frame, screenshot and, at times, leaked material, and publish maps that are updated after each new footage. It is careful work and the source of most "map size" headlines, including the 2.5 times GTA V estimate. None of these maps is official: Rockstar has released no map, and the in-game map will be the first. We do not reproduce them here; the regions above are the ones Rockstar itself has named.
Rockstar has not said. GTA V opened its entire map from the first mission; Red Dead Redemption 2 locked regions behind the story for a while. The Extended Look moved freely between regions but was a curated presentation. Until Rockstar confirms it, treat both as possible.
The original Grand Theft Auto: Vice City was two islands and a handful of districts, drivable end to end in a few minutes. The new Vice City alone is described as twice the size of Los Santos, and it sits inside a state five regions wider. The 1986 city is still worth a visit for the names it shares with the new one, Ocean Beach, Washington Beach, Leaf Links: it costs 4.60 EUR as a PC key on our Trilogy and originals page, and our Vice City hub has its map.
The game launches on 19 November 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S; the countdown gives the days and the unlock hour for your region. Pre-orders are open at 79.99 EUR for the Standard Edition and 99.99 EUR for the Ultimate, and the cheapest key you can buy is 66.99 EUR at Eneba on PS5, checked on 28 September 2026 (Instant Gaming has not opened pre-orders); our GTA 6 price comparison lists every seller. Jason, Lucia and the cast are on the characters page. Instant Gaming links on GTAside are affiliate links, same price for you.

Six regions named by Rockstar: Vice City, the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga National Park, across the counties of Vice-Dale, Mariana, Kelly, Ambrosia, Lummox and Leonard.
Vice City is the only large city. Port Gellhorn is a faded coastal resort town, Ambrosia a refinery town, Yorktown the town of the Mount Kalaga region, and the Keys a chain of island communities.
Yes, in Leonida, Rockstar's fictional Florida. Vice City is Miami, the Leonida Keys are the Florida Keys, Grassrivers is the Everglades, Port Gellhorn the Gulf coast, Ambrosia the sugar country and Mount Kalaga the forested north.
No. Rockstar has released no map image. The interactive map on this page is GTAside's own, drawn on the real Florida from Rockstar's descriptions; the fan maps that circulate online are reconstructions from the trailers, and the first official map will be the one in the game.
Rockstar has not confirmed it. GTA V opened its whole map immediately; Red Dead Redemption 2 unlocked regions with the story. Either is possible for GTA 6.
The hands-off previews of September 2026 describe Vice City as around twice the size of Los Santos, with more enterable buildings. That is a journalists' estimate; Rockstar has given no figure.
They are careful reconstructions by fans, pieced together from trailer frames, screenshots and at times leaked material, and revised after each new footage. Most map size headlines, including the 2.5 times GTA V estimate, come from them, but none is official: Rockstar has released no map.
