When does GTA 6 unlock in my country?
The PlayStation Store lists a release timestamp for 63 countries and regions. They resolve into 15 unlock windows, almost all at midnight on 19 November in the store’s own time zone. The table below gives the main ones, checked against the store listings on 8 September 2026.

Two details matter for large countries. A store region carries a single timestamp, so the western part of a country starts earlier by the clock: 9 pm on 18 November in Los Angeles, Vancouver and Perth. And the Canary Islands, the Azores and parts of Brazil, Chile, Ecuador and Mexico differ from the midnight shown for their store. Does the Xbox store follow the same hours?
Microsoft has not published a per-region table, but Xbox digital releases follow the same midnight-local convention, and every report since 7 September treats the two consoles as aligned. The difference is not the hour, it is how each platform decides which region you are in, and that is where the trick comes from.
When can I preload GTA 6?
Preloading starts on 12 November 2026 for digital pre-orders on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, one week before launch. Rockstar has not published the install size. If you buy a disc, there is nothing to preload: the game installs from the disc, and the day-one update downloads on launch day.
What is the New Zealand trick, and does it work?
Because New Zealand unlocks first, a console set to New Zealand receives the game at 11:00 UTC on 18 November. That is noon in Paris, 11 am in London, 6 am in New York and 3 am in Los Angeles, between 12 and 19 hours ahead of your own midnight.
On Xbox Series X|S it works. The unlock is tied to the console’s location setting, which you can change: Settings, System, Language and location, set the location to New Zealand, then restart the console. Your account, your purchases and your saves stay where they are, and you switch back after. Windows Central, GTABoom and others have documented it since 7 September, and it has worked for previous midnight releases. Two caveats: it applies to a digital copy bought on your own account, and Microsoft could still decide to enforce the account region for this launch, which it has not announced.
On PlayStation 5 it does not. The unlock follows the country of the PlayStation Network account, which cannot be changed once created. Changing the console clock or time zone changes nothing. The only route is a separate New Zealand account with the game bought on that account, which means paying again, in New Zealand dollars, with the risk of a region-locked purchase. Not a trick, a second copy.
Does a physical copy unlock earlier?
Disc copies are controlled by the retailer’s release date rather than a store timestamp, so a shop opening on 19 November in your country hands it over at opening time, not at midnight, unless it runs a midnight launch. The disc still needs the day-one update to play online features, and the update follows the digital schedule.
