GTA 6 Online: What Rockstar Has Confirmed About Multiplayer

Rockstar has not announced an online mode for GTA 6. The game comes out on 19 November 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, and Rockstar's pre-order announcement and the store listings describe it as a single-player experience. No online release date, player count, cross-play or progress transfer from GTA Online has been announced.

Will GTA 6 Have an Online Mode?

Rockstar has not said. What history shows is that its last two open worlds added their online mode after the story game: GTA Online launched on 1 October 2013, two weeks after GTA V, and Red Dead Online opened in beta in November 2018, a month after Red Dead Redemption 2. That is a precedent, not an announcement.

Is There a GTA 6 Online Release Date?

No. Dates that circulate for an online launch come from leakers and commentators, not from Rockstar or Take-Two. The only dates Rockstar has set are the release on 19 November 2026 and preloading from 12 November, both on our GTA 6 release date countdown.

What Happens to GTA Online?

GTA Online on GTA V is still running its weekly events in September 2026, with Rockstar's Business Rivalries event scheduled to 30 September and GTA+ benefits running to 7 October. Rockstar has not announced an end date, nor whether characters, money or vehicles will carry over to anything built on GTA 6. This week's bonuses are on our GTA Online weekly update.

Is GTA 6 Cross-Platform?

Nothing has been announced about cross-play or cross-progression. GTA 6 is a single-player release on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S; what each version offers is on our GTA 6 consoles page, and the PC situation on our GTA 6 PC page.
