Fastest Car in GTA 3
The Infernus is the fastest car in GTA III at 240 km/h, or 149.13 mph. The Cheetah is second at 230. Those two are the only cars in the game above 200 km/h, and below them four different vehicles tie at exactly 200, two of which you can take off the street for nothing.

Infernus or Cheetah?
The Infernus, on the numbers. It is ten kilometres per hour faster and it is the only car in Liberty City that goes past 230. The Cheetah is the more practical choice for most of the game, because it spawns in more places and you will find one long before you find an Infernus.
The two are frequently listed as equals, including on this page until today, because most sites grade GTA III cars as « very fast » rather than publishing the figures. Once you print the numbers the ranking is not close.
The Fastest Car You Do Not Have to Look For
The Yakuza Stinger and the Mafia Sentinel both reach 200 km/h, which is exactly the same as the Banshee and the ordinary Stinger. Both are gang cars: they drive past you in Torrington and Portland once the relevant gang is active, and they cost you nothing but the time it takes to pull the driver out. If you want speed without hunting for a supercar, that is the answer, and it is the single most useful fact on this page.
Why Four Cars Share Exactly 200 km/h
Because GTA III stores top speed in kilometres per hour and reuses round values across the roster. Every figure in the game converts to a whole number: 240, 230, 200, 180, 160. None of them lands between two. Rockstar assigned each vehicle to a speed bracket rather than giving it an individual figure, which is why so many cars tie and why a ranking that only shows mph looks arbitrary.
The same pattern runs through the series. In GTA IV five different sports cars share a single ceiling of 160 km/h, and there the ties are so wide that acceleration has to do the ranking instead.
