Every GTA IV cheat is a phone number. Take out Niko's phone, press Up again for the keypad, dial the number and call it: 482-555-0100 gives health, armour, ammo and the full arsenal in one go. There are no typed codes and no controller sequences, so the same 31 numbers work on PC, PlayStation and Xbox. Sixteen cheats belong to Niko's story, six more to The Lost and Damned and ten to The Ballad of Gay Tony, which makes 32 in all.
Three things to know first. Six of Niko's numbers block a few achievements and trophies, the vehicle spawns mostly do not, and the full breakdown is further down. An achievement block lasts only for the current session. And the safest habit is the boring one: keep a clean save from before your first call, then cheat freely on a second slot.

Every GTA IV cheat is a phone number, so the method is the same everywhere. Only the button that brings out the phone changes.
| Platform | Take out the phone | Then |
|---|---|---|
Xbox 360, and Xbox One through backward compatibility | Up on the D-pad | Up again for the keypad, dial, call |
PS3 | Up on the D-pad | Up again for the keypad, dial, call |
PC | Up arrow key | Up again for the keypad, dial, call |
A short confirmation appears. After the first call, the cheat is kept in the phone's Cheats menu, so you can pick it again without dialling. Most cheats are one-off effects, so there is nothing to switch off. GTA IV and both episodes have run on Xbox One through backward compatibility since February 2017, with the same numbers.

You do not have to learn 31 numbers. Every cheat starts with a three digit prefix that spells a word on the phone keypad, and once you can read the prefix, the list mostly remembers itself. 227 is CAR, 486 is GUN, 267 is COP. The Spells column in the tables above gives the full reading for each number.
We counted the prefixes across all 32 cheats: there are thirteen of them. CAR is the busiest with six cheats, five for Niko and the Bullet GT for Luis. GUN, MBK (the motorbikes) and BIK (Johnny's choppers) have four each, FLY has three, and five prefixes are used once: GTA, DOC, HOT, ARM and APC.
| Prefix | Spells | Cheats | Used for |
|---|---|---|---|
| 227 | CAR | 6 | Cars: FIB Buffalo, Cognoscenti, Comet, Super GT, Turismo, Bullet GT |
| 486 | GUN | 4 | Both weapon sets, Luis' arsenal, explosive sniper rounds |
| 625 | MBK | 4 | Motorbikes: NRG 900, Sanchez, Akuma, Vader |
| 245 | BIK | 4 | Johnny's bikes: Innovation, Double T Custom, Hexer, Hakuchou Custom |
| 359 | FLY | 3 | Annihilator, Buzzard, parachute |
| 267 | COP | 2 | Clear or raise your wanted level |
| 938 | WET | 2 | Boats: Jetmax, Floater |
| 826 | VAN | 2 | Slamvan, Gang Burrito |
| 482, 362, 468, 276, 272 | GTA, DOC, HOT, ARM, APC | 1 each | Full refill, health and armour, weather, explosive punches, APC |
The last four digits follow a pattern too. Eleven of the 31 numbers end in 0100, and six more end in 0150, usually the second half of a pair: GUN-0100 is the advanced weapon set and GUN-0150 the poor one, COP-0100 clears your stars and COP-0150 adds one, MBK-0100 is the NRG 900 and MBK-0150 the Sanchez. Niko's cars are the exception, with endings like 0142 and 0175. Luis' episode breaks the habit completely. Seven of his ten numbers end in a word instead: BOOM for explosive punches, BLAM for the explosive sniper rounds, PARA, TANK, BUZZ, ZOOM for the Bullet GT and FARE for the Vader. If you know what you want, you can usually work out the number on the keypad without looking it up.

Twenty-one of the 32 cheats spawn a vehicle: nine for Niko, all six of Johnny's and six of Luis' ten. We matched every car and bike against our GTA IV top speed ranking, and the result is clear: in each of the three games, the phone gives you the fastest machine or a share of it.
In the base game, five cars tie for the highest top speed at 160 km/h. Two of them, the Comet and the Turismo, are on Niko's phone. The Comet is also hard to find in the street, rare even in Algonquin traffic, so 227-555-0175 is the easy way to get one. The Super GT, on 227-555-0168, is just behind at 155 km/h and also rare in traffic. The NRG 900, on 625-555-0100, is the base game's fastest bike at 150 km/h.
The Hakuchou Custom and the Double T Custom, on 245-555-0199 and 245-555-0125, tie at 160 km/h, and no bike in GTA IV or either episode is quicker. Johnny's own chopper, the Innovation, is a lot slower at 125 km/h: it is the cheat you dial for the look, not the speed.
The Bullet GT, 227-555-9666, reaches 163 km/h. It is the only car across the three games above 160. At the other end, the APC everyone dials for the tank is ranked 107th of the 110 cars at 80 km/h. Only the Ripley, the forklift and the golf caddy are slower, so treat it as a moving turret rather than a getaway car.
| Vehicle | Dial | Top speed | Rank in our list |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bullet GT (Luis) | 227-555-9666 | 163 km/h | 1st of 110 cars |
| Comet (Niko) | 227-555-0175 | 160 km/h | 2nd of 110, tied |
| Turismo (Niko) | 227-555-0147 | 160 km/h | 2nd of 110, tied |
| Super GT (Niko) | 227-555-0168 | 155 km/h | 10th of 110, tied |
| FIB Buffalo (Niko) | 227-555-0100 | 150 km/h | 12th of 110, tied |
| Cognoscenti (Niko) | 227-555-0142 | 150 km/h | 12th of 110, tied |
| Gang Burrito (Johnny) | 826-555-0150 | 130 km/h | 67th of 110, tied |
| Slamvan (Johnny) | 826-555-0100 | 125 km/h | 87th of 110, tied |
| APC (Luis) | 272-555-8265 | 80 km/h | 107th of 110 |
| Hakuchou Custom (Johnny) | 245-555-0199 | 160 km/h | 1st of 27 bikes, tied |
| Double T Custom (Johnny) | 245-555-0125 | 160 km/h | 1st of 27, tied |
| Vader (Luis) | 625-555-3273 | 154 km/h | 3rd of 27 |
| NRG 900 (Niko) | 625-555-0100 | 150 km/h | 4th of 27, tied |
| Akuma (Luis) | 625-555-0200 | 150 km/h | 4th of 27, tied |
| Sanchez (Niko) | 625-555-0150 | 130 km/h | 11th of 27, tied |
| Hexer (Johnny) | 245-555-0150 | 125 km/h | 14th of 27, tied |
| Innovation (Johnny) | 245-555-0100 | 125 km/h | 14th of 27, tied |
The two helicopters and the two boats are left out of the table because our ranking only covers cars and bikes.
Three of GTA IV's collectible rewards are also cheat numbers. Shooting all 200 pigeons in Niko's story leaves an Annihilator on the MeTV building helipad in Star Junction; 359-555-0100 puts one beside you in seconds. In The Lost and Damned, the 50 seagulls give Johnny the Innovation, which is also 245-555-0100. In The Ballad of Gay Tony, the 50 seagulls leave an APC at Yusuf Amir's construction site, the same tank as 272-555-8265. The Bullet GT is the same story: Henrique offers it after the mission No. 3, and the phone gives it to you from the first minute.
The difference is what comes with it. The pigeon hunt unlocks the Endangered Species achievement and counts towards 100% completion. Dialling the Annihilator does neither, and it is one of the six numbers that block achievements. If you want the helicopter early for the hunt itself, our pigeon locations page marks the birds you can only reach by air.

486-555-0100 appears twice in the list, and that is not a mistake. In Niko's story it hands over the baseball bat, combat pistol, combat shotgun, SMG, carbine rifle, combat sniper, RPG and grenades. Dial the same number as Luis and you get his own advanced set instead: the Pistol .44, the explosive shotgun, the Assault SMG, the advanced MG, the advanced sniper, the grenade launcher and sticky bombs.
How good are those sets? We checked each one against our ranking of all 29 GTA IV weapons. Niko's advanced set holds five of the twelve weapons we rank highest, including the top two, the Combat Shotgun and the Carbine Rifle. The "poor" set on 486-555-0150 is not as poor as it sounds: it carries the Assault Rifle, our number three, along with the Combat Sniper, the RPG and the Micro SMG, the gun you can fire from a car. Luis' version brings four more of the top twelve: the Advanced MG, the explosive Automatic Shotgun, the Sticky Bombs and the Grenade Launcher.
The one top twelve weapon no cheat gives you is the Assault Shotgun from The Lost and Damned. Johnny's episode has no weapon cheat of its own, so his new guns still come from Terry Thorpe or from the clubhouse once enough Gang Wars are won.
Six of Niko's numbers do, and each blocks a short list, not everything. The vehicle spawns are safe, except the Annihilator.
| Cheat | Dial | Blocks |
|---|---|---|
Health, armour, ammo and advanced weapons | 482-555-0100 | Cleaned the Mean Streets |
Health and armour | 362-555-0100 | Cleaned the Mean Streets, Finish Him, One Man Army, Walk Free |
Weapon sets | 486-555-0100, 486-555-0150 | Cleaned the Mean Streets |
Clear your wanted level | 267-555-0100 | One Man Army, Walk Free |
Annihilator | 359-555-0100 | One Man Army, Walk Free |
Everything else in Niko's list blocks nothing, and no cheat stops 100% completion of GTA IV. The block lasts for the current session only: to earn a blocked achievement, quit the game and load a save made before the cheat, so keep a clean file before you start dialling.
Two of the four are easy to explain. One Man Army means surviving five minutes at a six star wanted level, and Walk Free means losing a four star level by outrunning the police. A free refill of health, a way to wipe your stars or an armed helicopter would turn both into a formality.
So the rule of thumb is simple: anything that keeps you alive, arms you or helps you escape the police is flagged, and the cars, bikes, boats and weather are not. Spawn a Comet or change the weather as often as you like on your main save.

Not every useful number on Niko's keypad is a cheat. These are the ones people look for when they search for GTA IV phone numbers.
The emergency services.
The song identifier, and on the keypad 948 spells ZIT. Call it while a song is playing on the radio and a text a few seconds later names the track and the artist. It also sits behind a hidden cheat: drive the Mr. Tasty ice cream van, cycle the horn until the GTA IV theme plays, ask ZiT to identify it, and you get full health, armour and ammunition. It counts as a cheat and blocks some achievements, like the real ones. The rest of that story is on our GTA IV easter eggs page.
The rule about episodes only runs one way. Johnny's and Luis' numbers do nothing in Niko's story, but the base game's general cheats, health, armour, weapons, weather and wanted level, can be dialled on Johnny's and Luis' phones too. In The Ballad of Gay Tony, 486-555-0100 then hands Luis his own arsenal rather than Niko's.
The numbers never change between platforms, but which of the 32 you can use depends on what you own. GTA IV came out on PS3 and Xbox 360 on 29 April 2008 and on PC on 2 December 2008 in North America. The Lost and Damned arrived on Xbox 360 on 17 February 2009, The Ballad of Gay Tony on 29 October 2009, and PS3 and PC players got both on the Episodes from Liberty City disc on 13 April 2010 in North America.
On PC today the game is sold as the Complete Edition, with the base game and both episodes, so all 32 cheats are there. On Xbox One and Series X|S, the Xbox 360 game runs through backward compatibility and the episodes are sold separately: Johnny's and Luis' numbers only work if you have them. There is still no PS4, PS5 or Switch version.
| Version | Niko's 16 | Johnny's 6 and Luis' 10 | Phone button |
|---|---|---|---|
| PC, Complete Edition | Yes | Yes, both episodes included | Up arrow key |
| PS3 | Yes | With Episodes from Liberty City | Up on the D-pad |
| Xbox 360 | Yes | With each episode | Up on the D-pad |
| Xbox One, Series X|S | Yes, backward compatible | Episodes sold separately | Up on the D-pad |
| PS4, PS5, Switch | No version of GTA IV | ||

Lists tell you what each number does. Here is what they are good for once you combine a few.
Dial the Comet (227-555-0175) and the Turismo (227-555-0147) on an empty stretch of road. They share the same 160 km/h top speed, but the Comet reaches 60 mph in 4.5 seconds against 5.0 for the Turismo, and you will feel it in the first block. Crash one, dial 362-555-0100, and the car is repaired along with your health.
Each call to 267-555-0150 adds one star, so a few calls take you to the top of the wanted scale. Keep 482-555-0100 ready for when your armour runs out and 267-555-0100 to end it all at once. Since those numbers block One Man Army and Walk Free, do this on a second save, not the one you want the achievements on.
In The Ballad of Gay Tony, dial the Buzzard (359-555-2899) and the parachute (359-555-7272), climb high over Algonquin, step out and pull the chute. Add 276-555-2666 for explosive punches if you plan to land in a fight.

You dialled a number and nothing happened. GTA IV has no typed codes and no controller sequences, every cheat is a phone call, so the cause is usually the call itself or the game you are playing. Check the list below before assuming the number is wrong.
GTA IV dropped the typed codes of GTA III, Vice City and San Andreas, and it has no controller sequences either. Nothing you hammer into the keyboard or the pad will register. Take out the phone, press Up again for the keypad, type the cheat number and call it.
Only the button that brings out the phone changes between platforms. On Xbox 360, PS3 and Xbox One through backward compatibility it is Up on the D-pad, on PC it is the up arrow key. The numbers stay the same everywhere. After that, press Up again for the keypad, then dial and call.
A short confirmation appears whenever a cheat takes, so if nothing showed up the call never registered. Dial the number again and watch for the message. After the first successful call the cheat is kept in the phone's Cheats menu, so you can pick it from there without dialling.
Johnny's six numbers exist only inside The Lost and Damned, Luis' ten only inside The Ballad of Gay Tony. Dialling a Lost and Damned number as Niko does nothing, and the same rule holds in reverse. Load the right episode and dial there, in the same way their weapons work only in their own game. On Xbox the episodes are sold separately from the base game, so you need the one you are dialling in.
Spawned vehicles and refilled health are one-off effects, so when you need them again the number simply has to be dialled once more. Quitting and restarting the game also clears any achievement block, so nothing is broken.

The full arsenal these cheats hand you is ranked on the GTA IV weapons page, all twenty-nine of them across the three games. Elsewhere: the fastest cars in GTA IV, the two endings, the easter eggs and the game page. The typed codes of the older games are on GTA III, Vice City and San Andreas; GTA V brought the phone back alongside them. The episodes have their own pages: The Lost and Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony.
