GTA 6 has been delayed twice: on 2 May 2025 Rockstar moved it from 2025 to 26 May 2026, and on 6 November 2025 to 19 November 2026. The date has not moved since. Take-Two reaffirmed 19 November 2026 with its results on 7 August 2026, when its chief executive, Strauss Zelnick, called the level of pre-orders "unprecedented and astonishing". As of 16 September 2026 there has been no third delay.

Both times, Rockstar said it needed more time to finish the game at the level of quality players expect, and thanked fans for their patience. It gave no more detailed reason, and explanations beyond that statement are speculation.
Nothing points that way officially. Since the second delay, Rockstar opened pre-orders on 25 June 2026, set preloading for 12 November and released the Extended Look on 27 August, and Take-Two kept 19 November in its August results.
