Nuevo Paraiso: The Forgotten Frontier, the fan-made Mexico expansion for Red Dead Redemption 2, releases on 16 September 2026, free, on PC only, through Nexus Mods. It rebuilds the Mexican territory of the first Red Dead Redemption for 1907 and casts Sadie Adler as its recommended lead. It is the closest thing to the story expansion Rockstar never made. Here is what it contains, what to make of the Switch 2 talk, and where the game itself is cheapest this month.
What is in Nuevo Paraiso?
The mod, led by the creator known as Rixus, opens the region south of the San Luis River that the base game keeps out of reach: settlements, gang hideouts, treasure hunts, minigames, bounty-hunter missions and random encounters set in the years before the Mexican Revolution of 1911, with the oppression and tension of the period as its theme. You play Sadie Adler by default, with Arthur Morgan and John Marston as alternatives. It requires a legitimate PC copy of Red Dead Redemption 2 and installs on top of it. The first public build is dated 16 September; the team has announced content updates after it.
Is it official?
No. Rockstar has released no story expansion for Red Dead Redemption 2 and has announced none. Nuevo Paraiso is community work on Rockstar’s engine and assets; it lives or dies by Rockstar’s tolerance for mods, which has been steady for single-player projects and hostile to anything touching Red Dead Online. Install it on a single-player profile and keep it out of online sessions.
Is Red Dead Redemption 2 coming to Switch 2?
Rockstar has announced nothing. The first Red Dead Redemption is already on Switch 2, which is why the question keeps coming back, and September brought another round of reports that Rockstar’s Switch 2 plans “may have changed”, without a source you can check. Until Rockstar or Nintendo says so, treat every Switch 2 date as a rumour. Our Red Dead Redemption price page covers the Switch 2 version that does exist.
What else moved this month?
- Take-Two’s latest results again listed Red Dead Redemption 2 among its steady sellers, and the game appeared in Steam’s weekly top sellers again in the first week of September.
- The Red Dead Online bonuses continue on the usual weekly cycle, without new content; Rockstar’s last Red Dead Online announcement dates from June.
- Stories of a “free expansion set in an alternate timeline” circulating on 8 September are the Nuevo Paraiso mod under another headline, not a Rockstar release.
