GTA 6 Story: What Rockstar Has Revealed About the Plot

GTA 6 follows Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, a couple who, in Rockstar's words, have always known "the deck is stacked against them". An easy score goes wrong and drops them into a criminal conspiracy that stretches across the state of Leonida, where they have to rely on each other to get out alive. Rockstar confirms a single-player story told in chapters, out on 19 November 2026; its length and systems so far come from interviews, and are marked as such below.

Who Are Jason and Lucia?

Jason grew up around grifters and crooks, did a stint in the Army to shake off a troubled youth, and ended up in the Keys doing what he knows, working for local drug runners. Rockstar says he wants an easy life and keeps finding it harder. Lucia's father taught her to fight as soon as she could walk; fighting for her family put her in the Leonida Penitentiary, and she is out, set on smart moves only and on the good life her mother has dreamed of since their days in Liberty City. Rockstar presents each as the other's way out.

Who Else Is in the Story?

Rockstar's site introduces six more characters: Cal, Jason's friend and a fellow associate of Brian; Boobie, a Vice City legend with a strip club, real estate and a recording studio; Dre'Quan Priest of Only Raw Records; Real Dimez, the duo Bae-Luxe and Roxy; Raul Bautista, a seasoned bank robber; and Brian, a drug runner in the Keys. The Ultimate Edition adds Wyman, an eccentric collector and local fixer. Surnames such as Hampton and Heder come from the press rather than from Rockstar's text. Where Does the GTA 6 Story Take Place?

In Leonida, Rockstar's Florida, around Vice City. Rockstar presents six regions: Vice City, the Leonida Keys, the Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga National Park. Each has its own section on our GTA 6 map.

Is GTA 6 Split Into Chapters?

Yes, by Rockstar's own text: the Ultimate Edition's bonuses are threaded through the story, with "new items uncovered behind each chapter". Rockstar has not said how many chapters there are.

How Long Is the GTA 6 Story?

Rockstar has not said. Rob Nelson, co-head of Rockstar North, told The New York Times that his own playthrough in February 2026 took about 80 hours, the main story plus some optional goals with consequences for the story; GamesRadar+, TechSpot and GameSpot reported it. A 75-hour figure that also circulates comes from a leak and is not confirmed. The same Rockstar North preview gave the press a map three times the size of Red Dead Redemption 2's, a figure Kotaku attributes to Nelson.

What Is the Criminal Profile?

A system Nelson described in a preview interview with IGN, reported by GamesRadar+ and Engadget: it tracks how far you go beyond what a job requires, which the press compares to Red Dead Redemption 2's honour system. Coverage of the Extended Look also reports a wanted level that now goes up to six stars, with police tracking your face, your clothes and your car. Rockstar's own pages do not describe either system yet.
