GTA London 1969 is set in London in 1969, the only real city in the series along with its companion pack, London 1961. The map covers fourteen districts on both sides of the Thames, from Hyde Park, Soho and the City in the north to Brixton and Battersea in the south, with landmarks such as Big Ben and the Tower of London appearing in missions.
| Area | Districts |
|---|---|
North of the Thames | City, Hyde Park, Camden Town, Angel, Mile End, Bow, Soho, Westminster, Chelsea |
South of the Thames | Camberwell, Bermondsey, Brixton, Southwark, Battersea |
Each of the fourteen districts is named in the mission directions.
Big Ben and the Tower of London both feature in missions: one job involves tourists at Big Ben, and another is stealing the Crown Jewels.
The expansion swaps in British slang: when the police catch you, the game says "Nicked" instead of "Busted", and when you die, "You're Brown Bread". It adds about 30 new vehicles.
London 1969 is an expansion for the first Grand Theft Auto (1997) and needs the original game. A standalone London Special Edition was released later on PlayStation in the UK. London 1961, a free PC download, uses the same map and needs both GTA and London 1969.
