Is a GTA 4 Remaster Coming? Every Leak and Clue Checked (2026)

No GTA 4 remaster has been announced. On 27 September 2026, Rockstar’s own GTA IV page still lists only Xbox One, PC, PS3 and Xbox 360, and no rating board has a new version on file. What exists are clues: an insider who said in 2025 that a GTA IV port, “not a remaster”, was in development, a PS4 entry that briefly appeared on Rockstar’s support site, and an unnamed “platform extension” in Take-Two’s plans. Here is what each one is worth, and how to play GTA IV today.

What the GTA 4 port leak said

In May 2025, the insider Tez2, whom Kotaku described in 2022 as “often reliable”, wrote on a fan forum that a GTA IV port had been in development for about a year and could come out later that year, with a Max Payne 3 port to follow. A few days later he corrected the headlines, as ComicBook reported: “It’s not a remaster. I don’t know which platforms are targeted, or which version it will be based off, or which studio is handling this port.” So the articles that promised a PS5 or Switch 2 remaster went further than the leak. The 2025 release did not happen, and Tez2 has given no new date.

The PS4 entry on Rockstar’s support site

In July 2025, a Reddit user spotted PlayStation 4 among the platforms of GTA IV on Rockstar Support. Game Rant, KitGuru and OC3D reported it, and Rockstar removed the mention soon after. It is the strongest hint so far, because it came from Rockstar’s own site, but a support page is not an announcement. Some articles date this listing to 2023; it was July 2025.

What Take-Two’s plans say

On its earnings call of 21 May 2026, Take-Two said its current fiscal year, which ends in March 2027, includes GTA 6 and one “platform extension”, and that fiscal years 2028 and 2029 include six “remakes, remasters, and platform extensions”. Take-Two owns many series besides Rockstar’s, and it named none of these games. The only Rockstar remake officially announced is the Max Payne 1 & 2 Remake by Remedy. A May 2026 job listing at Rockstar Australia, the Sydney studio Rockstar bought in March 2025, asks for someone to handle “classic game technology areas”, which could point to old games or simply to classic gameplay systems.

How Rockstar brought back Red Dead Redemption

If a GTA IV port comes, Red Dead Redemption shows the likely path. Its remaster was shelved in 2022, then it came back as a plain port to PS4 and Switch, announced on 7 August 2023 and released ten days later at 49.99 dollars. On 13 November 2025, Rockstar announced native PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Switch 2 versions at 60 fps, released on 2 December with a free upgrade for owners. Both times the announcement came only days or weeks before release, and in 2025 the ESRB rating leaked first. That is also what a GTA IV port would probably look like: the same game at a higher frame rate, not a remake like GTA: The Trilogy, whose rough launch in November 2021 forced Rockstar to apologise.

Is there anything about GTA 4 in the September 2026 leak?

No. The archive of about 200 GB from the 2022 Rockstar hack that resurfaced on 18 September 2026 contains a “Liberty City” map, but it belongs to a cancelled expansion for GTA V, not to a GTA IV remaster. Nothing in it points to a GTA IV or Max Payne 3 port. The other GTA IV news of 2026 was a 2007 development build found on an Xbox 360 dev kit bought for 5 pounds at a car boot sale in Edinburgh, with a cut zombie mode and ferries, reported by Kotaku and Tom’s Hardware in March. It is a piece of history, not a sign of a port. Our GTA 6 leaks article covers the rest of that archive.

The fan-made GTA 4 “remaster”

The closest thing to a remaster today is a free PC mod. The GTA IV RTX Remix Compatibility Mod by the modder xoxor4d adds full path tracing to the game; its first public version came out on 27 November 2025, and version 1.5.2 on 31 August 2026. It needs the PC Complete Edition and, in practice, a GeForce RTX card, and it is heavy on the processor: Wccftech reported that even an RTX 5080 needs frame generation to reach 60 fps. It is not a Rockstar product and does not exist on consoles.
