The main characters of GTA IV are Niko Bellic, the Eastern European ex-soldier voiced by Michael Hollick, and his cousin Roman Bellic, with Little Jacob, Packie McReary, the Russian mobsters Mikhail Faustin, Dimitri Rascalov and Ray Bulgarin, and the man Niko is hunting, Darko Brevic. The two episodes add their own protagonists: Johnny Klebitz of the Lost motorcycle club in The Lost and Damned, and Luis Lopez, Gay Tony's bodyguard, in The Ballad of Gay Tony.

An ex-soldier who arrives in Liberty City on the cargo ship Platypus, looking for the American Dream Roman promised him and for the man who betrayed his unit ten years earlier. His full story is on the Niko Bellic profile.

Niko's cousin, whose letters about mansions and sports cars bring Niko to America. In reality he lives in a small apartment, runs an unprofitable taxi company and owes money to loan sharks. More on the Roman Bellic profile.
Vlad Glebov is the loan shark Roman owes, and Niko kills him after learning he slept with Mallorie. Mikhail Faustin, the boss who then employs Niko, is killed on the advice of his own lieutenant, Dimitri Rascalov, who betrays Niko to Ray Bulgarin, the crime lord Niko worked for back home. Dimitri stays Niko's enemy until the final missions.
Little Jacob, a Yardie gangster, becomes one of Niko's most loyal friends and helps him in the finale. Packie McReary, of the Irish mob family, brings Niko into a major bank robbery. His sister Kate is the woman Niko dates, and in the Revenge ending she is killed at Roman's wedding.

Niko's unit of fifteen men was ambushed during the war, and only three survived: Niko, Florian Cravic and Darko Brevic. Florian now lives in Liberty City as Bernie Crane and convinces Niko he was not the traitor. The government agency behind Michelle finds Darko in Romania and brings him to Liberty City, where Niko decides his fate.

Bruce "Brucie" Kibbutz is a steroid-fuelled car dealer, Niko Bellic's friend and a mission giver in Grand Theft Auto IV (2008). He returns in The Ballad of Gay Tony and GTA Online. His legal middle name is Motivation. Timothy Adams voices him.

Born around 1977 in the American Midwest, Brucie runs Brucie's Executive Lifestyle Autos, a chop shop in East Hook, Broker, and uses steroids. His older brother Mori appears in The Ballad of Gay Tony.

Brucie becomes a friend after No. 1, available from 7 AM to 1 AM, for boating, a helicopter ride, bowling, drinks, food, a show or the strip club. When he likes Niko enough, he flies him anywhere by helicopter.

Dimitri Rascalov is the main antagonist of Grand Theft Auto IV (2008). Mikhail Faustin's right-hand man, he has Niko kill Faustin, then betrays him and takes over the Russian mob. He dies in both endings. Moti Margolin voices him.

Dimitri served in the military with Mikhail Faustin, and the two shared a Siberian prison, where Faustin protected him. They have matching palm tattoos that mark them as "brothers". Born around 1969, Dimitri is 39 in 2008.

Kate McReary is Packie McReary's sister and Niko Bellic's love interest in Grand Theft Auto IV (2008). She disapproves of her family's criminal life. She dies in the Revenge ending and survives the Deal ending. Mary Catherine Donnelly voices her.
Born in 1980, Kate is the daughter of Maureen McReary and the sister of Patrick, Francis, Gerald and Derrick. She works at the community center in Dukes.
Kate first appears in Harboring a Grudge. Niko can date her after Waste Not Want Knots, when Packie suggests he call her. She never invites Niko inside after a date. When Niko must choose, she urges him not to do the deal with Dimitri.

"Little" Jacob Hughes is a Jamaican drug and arms dealer, right-hand man of Real Badman, and one of Niko Bellic's most loyal allies in Grand Theft Auto IV (2008). A friend of Roman before Niko arrives, he survives both endings. Coolie Ranx voices him.

Jacob becomes a friend after Shadow, available from 1 PM to 4 AM, for drinks, food, pool, the strip club, a show or darts. His favourite food is Cluckin' Bell. When he likes Niko enough, he sells weapons at a discount from his car.
Not in person: he only appears as a friend on Niko's Lifeinvader page. Born around 1982 in Jamaica, Jacob is Roman's friend; see Roman Bellic.
Mikhail Faustin is a volatile Russian mob boss in Hove Beach and one of Niko Bellic's first employers in Grand Theft Auto IV (2008). Niko kills him on Dimitri Rascalov's orders in The Master and the Molotov. Karel Roden voices him.

Born around 1963, Faustin runs the Perestroika cabaret and a mansion in Beachgate, with protection rackets, cocaine, pornography and stolen goods. He shared a Siberian prison with Dimitri Rascalov. He abuses cocaine and alcohol and has a violent temper.

After Lenny Petrovic's murder, Kenny Petrovic threatens war, and Dimitri asks Niko to kill Faustin to calm him. In The Master and the Molotov, Niko shoots Faustin, who falls from the roof of Perestroika after warning Niko that Dimitri will betray him. His widow Ilyena then records his voicemail.
Patrick "Packie" McReary is an Irish mobster, Niko Bellic's friend and a mission giver in Grand Theft Auto IV (2008). He returns in The Ballad of Gay Tony, and as a heist gunman in GTA V and GTA Online. Ryan Johnston voices him.

Packie, born around 1979, is the son of Maureen McReary, the brother of Derrick, Francis and Gerald, and of Kate. His father was violent and an alcoholic.

Packie can be called for activities after Three Leaf Clover: bowling, darts, drinking, pool, a show or the strip club. When he likes Niko enough, he can deliver a car bomb.
