The GTA 4 map is Liberty City, Rockstar's New York: four boroughs, Broker (Brooklyn), Dukes (Queens), Bohan (the Bronx) and Algonquin (Manhattan), plus Alderney, its New Jersey, across the river. When Niko arrives, the bridges are closed over a terrorist threat: Algonquin opens after the mission Blow Your Cover, and Alderney after Three Leaf Clover.

Broker, Dukes and Bohan are open from the start. Blow Your Cover opens the bridges to Algonquin, and Three Leaf Clover the Hickey Bridge and the Booth Tunnel to Alderney, which opens the whole map. Open from the start. Its neighborhoods include Hove Beach, Beachgate, Firefly Island, Firefly Projects, South Slopes, Outlook, Rotterdam Hill, Schottler, East Hook, BOABO, Beechwood City and Downtown.

After Three Leaf Clover. Its neighborhoods include Alderney City, Acter, Acter Industrial Park, Berchem, Leftwood, Normandy, Port Tudor, Tudor and Westdyke.
