The Red Dead Redemption 2 map is made of five fictional American states: Ambarino in the north, New Hanover in the east, Lemoyne in the south-east, West Elizabeth in the west and New Austin in the south-west. Each is split into regions, fifteen in all, and the island of Guarma sits off the map for Chapter 5. Saint Denis, the largest city, is modelled on New Orleans, and New Austin, the desert of the first game, opens in the Epilogue.

Rockstar has not published a size, and the fan estimates that circulate disagree by more than a factor of two, so we do not print one. For comparison with what comes next, the journalists who previewed GTA 6 in September 2026 put its state of Leonida at about three times the size of Red Dead Redemption 2's map, an estimate rather than a measurement, detailed on our GTA 6 map page.
