Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition is the 2005 entry in the series, developed by Rockstar San Diego, racing through open recreations of San Diego, Atlanta and Detroit. It is the first Midnight Club to let you modify your car, both its appearance and its performance.
It comes from a partnership with DUB Magazine, the American car customisation title. DUB appears throughout the game as sponsored races and as customised vehicles handed out as prizes, which is why the 2005 game leans so much harder on styling than the two before it.
Both visual and mechanical. You change wheels, bumpers, spoilers, hoods, neon and paint, and you also modify engine components to move a car between the game's four performance classes, D through A. Winning races unlocks both new cars and new parts to put on them.
Five types. Ordered races follow a marked course to a finish line, circuit races run laps, unordered races let you take the checkpoints in any sequence, autocross runs a tight technical course, and Frenzy is its own separate mode. The soundtrack runs to 98 licensed tracks, or 124 in the later Remix version.
An expanded re-release from March 2006 with extra vehicles, races and music, plus a Tokyo mode that the original 2005 game did not have. It replaced the original at retail rather than sitting alongside it.
San Diego, Atlanta and Detroit. The Remix version released in 2006 added a Tokyo mode on top.
Yes, and it is the first game in the series where you can. Customisation covers both appearance and engine performance.
98 licensed tracks in the original 2005 release, and 124 in the 2006 Remix version.
