Grand Theft Auto 2 Tips & Cheat Codes
GTA 2 is the only game in the series where cheats take two steps: first enter GOURANGA as your player name to switch cheat mode on, then type the codes during play. Skip the first step and nothing else responds, which is why so many GTA 2 codes seem not to work.
Two Steps, and a Regional Catch
On the PC version, start a new game and type GOURANGA where the game asks for your name, the same word the game shouts when you run over a line of Hare Krishnas. Cheat mode is now on, and the other codes respond when you type them during play.
The second catch is regional. Several codes only respond in the European release, which is why lists of GTA 2 cheats so often contradict each other. If a code from an old list does nothing, the version you own is the likely reason.
The Codes Worth Knowing First
MUCHCASH gives you $500,000 and GODOFGTA every weapon with full ammunition, enough to take on any of Anywhere City's seven gangs. LOSEFEDS clears the police off your back, and CUTIE1 sets your lives to 99.
Two codes change the way the game plays rather than how much you own. MADEMAN maxes out your respect with every gang, so all of them will give you work at once, and TUMYFROG opens every level without playing through the earlier ones.
GTA 2's respect system is still unique in the series: each gang remembers what you did to it, and working for one turns its rivals against you. The respect cheat is the fastest way to see how much of the game it locks away.
