Red Dead Redemption Tips & Cheat Codes

Red Dead Redemption's cheats are whole sentences, typed from the pause menu under Options, then Cheats. Every letter and every piece of punctuation counts. Once a phrase is accepted it joins a list you can switch on and off without typing it again, but while any cheat is active, trophies, achievements and autosave are off.

How to Enter Them

Pause the game, open Options, then Cheats, and type the phrase exactly as written, apostrophes and full stops included. A single missing comma is enough for the game to refuse it.

The cost is the same on every version: with a cheat active, trophies and achievements stop unlocking and the game no longer autosaves. Turn your cheats off and restart from the main menu when you want a clean session again. The 2023 release on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch and the 2024 PC version kept the same menu and the same phrases.

The Phrases Worth Typing First

When the law is closing in, THEY SELL SOULS CHEAP HERE lowers your bounty, and I WISH I WORKED FOR UNCLE SAM gives you diplomatic immunity. To explore without waiting for the story, YOU GOT YOURSELF A FINE PAIR OF EYES opens every area of the map.

And for the ending, OH MY SON, MY BLESSED SON lets you play as Jack, while THE OLD WAYS IS THE BEST WAYS turns the whole game sepia, like an old western print.

Undead Nightmare

Most of the phrases carry over to the Undead Nightmare expansion, but not all: weather and bounty cheats do nothing there, and the expansion's own rewards are earned through challenges rather than typed. The Undead Nightmare cheats page lists what still works.
