GTA 5 came out on 17 September 2013 on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. It then came out on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on 18 November 2014, on PC on 14 April 2015, and on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on 15 March 2022. PC players got GTA V Enhanced, a free upgrade, on 4 March 2025. GTA Online opened on 1 October 2013, two weeks after the game.

On 17 September 2013, on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. By 30 June 2026 it had sold more than 230 million copies, which makes it the second best-selling video game ever, behind Minecraft. The story, the three protagonists and the platforms are on our GTA 5 game page.
On PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on 18 November 2014, a little over a year after the original, and on PC on 14 April 2015. That PC version is the one Rockstar now calls GTA V Legacy.
On 15 March 2022, the date of Rockstar's announcement that GTA V and GTA Online were out on the new consoles, with ray-traced shadows and reflections among the upgrades.
