You can download GTA 5 officially on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. On PC it is sold by the Rockstar Games Launcher, Steam and the Epic Games Store, and a purchase gives you both GTA V Enhanced and GTA V Legacy; Enhanced needs 105 GB on an SSD. On console it comes from the PlayStation Store or the Microsoft Store. GTA 5 is not free, but GTA Online is also sold on its own and sometimes opens free trials. Current prices on every store are in our GTA 5 price comparison.

According to Rockstar's support page, GTA V Enhanced needs 105 GB of storage on an SSD, and a DirectStorage-compatible drive is recommended. GTA V Legacy needs 125 GB. The two are separate installs, so installing both takes the space of both.
| Step | What to do |
|---|---|
1 | Buy GTA V on the Rockstar Games Launcher, Steam or the Epic Games Store, or redeem a key on the store it belongs to. |
2 | Sign in with a Rockstar Games account: Rockstar requires it for installation and online play, along with an internet connection for activation. |
3 | Choose GTA V Enhanced if your PC meets its requirements, or GTA V Legacy for older PCs, and install it. |
4 | Launch the game. Existing PC players can move their Story Mode and GTA Online progress from Legacy to Enhanced. |
Which version fits your PC, and what Enhanced adds, is explained in our GTA V Enhanced guide.
Buy and download the game from the PlayStation Store or the Microsoft Store. On PlayStation, the store sells a PS4 & PS5 bundle, so the PS5 version is included. Playing GTA Online on console needs PlayStation Plus or Xbox Game Pass. Rockstar says players coming from PlayStation 4 or Xbox One can transfer both their Story Mode and Online progress to PS5 or Xbox Series X|S with a one-time migration.
No. GTA V has to be bought on every platform. GTA Online is also sold on its own on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and Rockstar occasionally runs free trials of it without a subscription, most recently from 14 to 20 July 2026; the details are on our GTA Online page. Only the stores above sell the official game.
