The Army and Phil Cassidy
Vic needs money for his brother Pete's asthma medication. Sergeant Jerry Martinez drags him into a drug deal, then frames him with drugs and a prostitute, and Vic is dishonourably discharged. Phil Cassidy gives him a place to stay and work.
Marty, Louise and the Vance Empire
Vic works for Marty Jay Williams, until Marty kidnaps his own wife Louise to use her at his brothel. Vic kills Marty and takes over his businesses. His brother Lance arrives in Vice City, and together they build the Vance crime family, helping Umberto Robina's Cubans and working for Bryan Forbes, who turns out to be a DEA agent.
The Mendez Brothers and Phil Collins
In From Zero to Hero, Vic and Lance steal a cocaine shipment from Martinez that belongs to the Mendez brothers, and Lance saves their lives by claiming Martinez is a DEA agent. The brothers go to work for the Mendezes. Vic also protects Phil Collins from hitmen and at his concert. When Martinez exposes Lance's lie, the Mendezes turn on the Vances.
How Does Vice City Stories End?
The Mendezes kidnap Louise and Lance. Vic storms the Mendez mansion and kills Armando in Light My Pyre, but Louise dies of her injuries. With Phil and Ricardo Diaz, he steals a helicopter from Fort Baxter in Over the Top, then kills Diego Mendez and Jerry Martinez on a rooftop in Last Stand. Lance arrives late and proposes another drug deal; Vic refuses, and the brothers leave Vice City. Two years later, Vic dies at the start of GTA Vice City.
