Who Is Lance Vance?
A drug dealer working with his brother Victor. In 1986 the Vance brothers are due to sell drugs to the Forellis' men, Tommy Vercetti among them. The deal is ambushed, Victor is killed, and Lance survives with a score to settle. Rockstar has confirmed that the brother killed in that opening scene is Victor Vance.
Lance in Vice City Stories (1984)
Two years earlier, in Vice City Stories, Lance joins his brother Victor and helps him build a criminal empire. The brothers steal a major drug shipment, are kidnapped by the Mendez brothers, Vice City's biggest drug lords at the time, and end up working for them and for Ricardo Diaz. At the end, the two brothers leave Vice City to give their brother Pete money for his medication.
Lance in Vice City (1986)
Lance teams up with Tommy to find who organised the ambush. Working for Ricardo Diaz under the alias "Quentin", he flies the helicopter in Phnom Penh '86. When he learns Diaz was behind the ambush, he attacks alone, is captured, and Tommy rescues him in Death Row. The two then kill Diaz in Rub Out. Rockstar modelled the Tommy and Lance partnership on Crockett and Tubbs of Miami Vice.
Why Does Lance Betray Tommy?
As Tommy builds his empire, Lance feels sidelined and inadequate beside him. When Sonny Forelli comes to Vice City to collect his money, Lance reveals Tommy's plan to pay him with counterfeit cash and sides with the Forellis. In the shootout at the mansion, Tommy kills him along with Sonny.
