Dutch van der Linde is the charismatic leader of the Van der Linde gang in Red Dead Redemption 2 (2018), which he founded with Hosea Matthews. His growing paranoia, fed by Micah Bell, destroys the gang. He returns as an antagonist in Red Dead Redemption (2010), where he dies in 1911. Benjamin Byron Davis plays him in both games.

About twenty years before the game, Dutch met Hosea Matthews when each tried to rob the other on the road to Chicago; together they founded the gang. Dutch took in orphans and street kids, including Arthur Morgan and John Marston. His feud with Colm O'Driscoll began when Dutch killed Colm's brother, and Colm killed Dutch's lover Annabelle.
The game opens after the failed Blackwater ferry robbery, a plan pushed by Micah, where Dutch killed an innocent woman. In chapter 3 he is made a deputy by Sheriff Gray of Rhodes and burns down the Braithwaite manor to find Jack; in chapter 4 he kills Angelo Bronte. After Guarma, he grows paranoid: he refuses to save John, kills Leviticus Cornwall, watches Colm hang and, on Micah's advice, leaves John for dead. In the final chapter he turns on Arthur and John, then walks away from both Arthur and Micah without a word.

In the epilogue, in the mission American Venom on Mount Hagen, Dutch shoots Micah and John finishes him off; Dutch leaves without the money. In 1911, in Red Dead Redemption, John is forced to hunt him down, and Dutch takes his own life by stepping off a cliff. The 1911 story is on our Red Dead Redemption story missions page.
The rest of the gang, with their actors, is on our Red Dead Redemption 2 characters page, and every mission on the missions page.
