The GTA San Andreas map has three cities, Los Santos, San Fierro and Las Venturas, based on Los Angeles, San Francisco and Las Vegas, and five counties of countryside and desert between them: Red County, Flint County, Whetstone, Bone County and Tierra Robada. Only Los Santos is open at the start; the rest of the state opens with the story, mission by mission.

Area 69 is the secret military base of the Bone County desert, and Mount Chiliad the mountain of Whetstone, south-west of San Fierro. Flint County has no town at all.

The first city, and the only one open at the start. Among its districts: Downtown, Commerce, Vinewood, Richman, Rodeo, Santa Maria Beach, Ganton, Idlewood, Jefferson, East Beach, El Corona, Los Santos International Airport and Ocean Docks.
The second city, with the Gant Bridge modelled on the Golden Gate. Among its districts: Downtown, Chinatown, Doherty, Hashbury, Calton Heights, Juniper Hill, Easter Basin, Easter Bay Airport, Garcia and Ocean Flats.
The third city, built around The Strip and its casinos. Among its districts: The Strip, Old Venturas Strip, Redsands East, Redsands West, Rockshore East, Roca Escalante, Whitewood Estates and Las Venturas International Airport.
